Health Insurance

Health Insurance

Health insurance plans provide financial protection against medical expenses that arise from illness, injury or hospitalization. By contracting health insurance, individuals can ensure that their medical costs, including hospital stays and surgeries will be paid by the insurance company. This allows people to access quality medical care without depleting their savings.

Types of Health Insurance

  • Individual

An individual indemnity-based health insurance policy provides reimbursement for medical expenses incurred by the insured, up to the policy’s sum insured. To receive reimbursement, the insured must submit detailed hospital bills and expense records, which will be reviewed and settled.

  • Family Floater

A family floater health insurance plan offers comprehensive protection for the entire family, similar to individual health insurance plans, but with a shared sum assured. This means that if multiple family members fall ill simultaneously, the sum assured is distributed among them, allowing for multiple claims to be settled at the same time.

  • Senior Citizen

Senior citizen health insurance plans are specifically designed for individuals aged 65 and above, providing essential financial support for medical treatments. These plans typically offer a range of benefits, including coverage for critical illnesses, cashless hospitalization, pre-existing medical conditions, and a higher sum assured, ensuring that seniors receive timely access to quality healthcare.

Critical illness cover can be added to an existing policy as a rider or purchased as a standalone plan, providing a lump sum payout upon diagnosis of a severe medical condition, such as cancer, heart disease, paralysis, or renal failure. Typically, there is a 30-day waiting period before the insured can claim benefits.

  • Individual

A top-up individual health insurance policy is a supplementary indemnity policy designed for individuals who already have an existing health insurance policy. It provides additional coverage for medical expenses beyond the initial sum insured, allowing policyholders to claim even after their primary policy limits have been exhausted. This policy typically comes with a mandatory deductible, which must be paid before coverage.

  • Family Floater

A top-up family health insurance policy provides additional coverage for families who already have an existing health insurance policy, allowing them to extend their medical expense coverage beyond the initial sum insured. This supplementary indemnity policy ensures that family members can continue to claim medical expenses even after the primary policy limits have been exhausted.

  • Cardiac

In response to the rising global prevalence of heart diseases, specialized health insurance plans have been designed to support cardiac patients, offering comprehensive coverage for diagnostic tests, treatments and related medical expenses.

  • Diabetes & Hypertension

Health insurance plans designed for individuals with diabetes and hypertension offer immediate coverage for hospitalization from day one. Additionally, these plans often incentivize policyholders medical test results and health parameters, such as healthy BMI, blood pressure, HbA1c, and cholesterol levels.

  • Cancer

Cancer insurance plans cover all medical expenses at any stage. They pay a portion of the cover upon early-stage diagnosis, waiving future premiums. For late-stage diagnosis, they pay the full cover plus an additional income for a specified period.

  • Vector Borne Diseases

A fixed benefit health insurance policy provides a lump sum payout equal to the sum insured if hospitalized for at least 72 hours due to a vector-borne disease, such as those transmitted by mosquito or tick bites.

Even with meticulous planning, international travel can be unpredictable. Travel insurance is often overlooked until unexpected events occur, such as accidents, sickness, loss of travel documents or trip delays due to bad weather. Hospitalization abroad can be particularly distressing and costly. That’s where travel insurance comes in. Various plans are available, including:

  • Single Trip (Leisure) Plan: Ideal for infrequent travelers, covering holidays or leisure time abroad.

  • Multi-Trip Plan: Suitable for frequent travelers, providing extended coverage for a year.

  • Students Plan: Designed for students studying abroad, covering study interruption, compassionate visits and sponsor protection.

  • Senior Citizen Plans: Tailored for senior citizens, often without medical tests, providing coverage and peace of mind.

Personal accident insurance provides financial protection against accidental injuries, death or loss of ability to earn, which may not be covered under standard life or health insurance policies. This type of policy offers coverage for loss of life, loss of limbs or permanent disability and accidents occurring during commute or in the workplace.

A hospi-cash insurance plan provides a fixed daily allowance to the insured for each day they are hospitalized, as specified in the policy. This amount remains constant and is not subject to change, making it a defined benefit plan that offers financial support during hospitalization.
